I am new at this and I don't know where to look for it. Where do I find the right size for a dual USB data and power cable adapter for a hard drive? My laptop died on me and I am trying to save all of my files on it by putting them on my computer. Please let me know soon, Thank you.

i'm gathering you mean internal HDD, if so a Sata to Usb cable is what you want. or you could get something like this (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8574282&CatId=2785) it's a dock that you can fit 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs into.

Ok great, Thank you! But like I said I am very new to this, and I didn't see any cords to it. Does it plug into my computer at all? Is that all I'm going to need? And it also said that it's pretty fast too. How long does it usually take to transfer files?

it plugs in via USB 2.0 and yes, that will be all you need to get data off of the hard drive and onto the new computer. and it depends how much you have on the hard drive, the speed is around 50mb/second

Ok Thank you! I do have one more question for you if you can help me with it. When my laptop died on me it was acting up really bad before it died. Can there be a virus on the hard drive, and will it get on my computer too? Is there a way to find out first, and can I get it off before I hook it up to my computer?

do you have antivirus software on your new computer?, if so, then you can usually scan the hard drive before transferring any of the files over, if there is a virus on the hard drive, it will be able to tell, and you can get rid of it, then it will be safe to transfer all of your files over.

Oh good...Yes I do have one! Thank you so much for helping me!! I'm going to go and buy it right now! If I have anymore questions about how to do this ( transferring the files) will you help me with it? Like I said I have never done this before, this will be my first time and I'm kinda of nervous about it. Will it be easy to do with this power cable adapter?

yes, it will be easy, all you have to do is connect the adaptor to an open usb port, plug in the hard drive, you should be able to figure out which way it goes in (if not, try consulting the product manual), run the antivirus software (most have an option to scan the drive when you right-click on it under my computer) and then just copy and paste! and i would be glad to help, should you require assistance!
