I come from a very very very slow laptop. Its an E-300 so I really do not care about 5 fps difference as long as I can actually do something at a reasonable fps. I am just thinking cost efficient. Also the energy could not matter to me at all either. I will be getting a mid range gpu. I will be pretty much doing a little bit of everything and will prolly use it for another 4-5 years.

Which i5?

I guess it doesn't matter. I would go with any current generation i5 over the FX-6300. It's priced at $110 for a reason. It's a budget CPU. You're going to get more than a 5fps boost that's for sure. But if $110 is all you want to spend on a processor, it's a moot point.

I would go up to maybe an fx 8320 or 50 which is around 150 bucks but if it was worth I would go up to an i5 any series really.

I would honestly go for the best you can afford. Which is the i5, since you aren't going to be upgrading for a long while.

The FX6300 is a great budget CPU but if you have the money then definitely get the i5. It will perform much better in CPU intensive games.

Maybe over the years I can upgrade the cpu just because its not soldered and I will not be using a new board though. Why though I am thinking about getting the 8320 or the 8340 because of the bench marks for amd Fx cpus given here.

Those are benches for the 9590 which is an extremely high binned 8350 with a great overclock the 8350 while capable is much more hit or miss but is still capable of hitting it because it is the same chip

FX-8320 is great if you're on a budget.

If you can afford the i5 go for it though.

But they do show a whole bunch of graphs for the 8350 and 20 too....

This is a bit over budget BUT you can get it in budget with a VERY basic motherboard

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($174.29 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B85M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($58.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card ($125.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $359.25
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Whilst the basic motherboard is probably okay for $10s you may as well get b85

AMD for the same price

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($152.99 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($44.99 @ Microcenter)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card ($125.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $353.94
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

I can't recommend the FX-8320 without a cooler, the stock one is awful.

You can save $10 by getting the TX3 though instead of 212 but 212 is better.

I can recommend some $300 dollar builds if you want to look at the lower end of the spectrum but they won't be with FX-8320's or I5's

Most likely FX-6300 vs i3

^ to add to what hes saying, if you do drop it down to an i3 I'd just get a 760k instead. 4 cores albeit slower ones would be more beneficial to you in 90% of the games than 2 stronger ones.

(I just made that statistic up)
