Where do I find it?

I was wondering if someone can help me with this question. Where can I find old chat messages on a laptop or desk computer? I was told that they are on the computer somewhere, but I just don't know where to look. Can someone help me with this? Please let me know soon, Thank you.

Ok, I was told that if it's yahoo messenger that it is stored somewhere on the computer, even if it's years old! Would it be stored in a file on the computer?

Ok, I'm stuck again! I have tried to do what it said in the first link and it's not working at all! I can't find the message folder or chat folder anywhere! Then in the other link I am lost at what it said on the last thing to do! When it says... Copy the Profiles folder to another computer in the appropriate location... What location? Like I said before I am still learning this, and I don't know where to put it! Please help me with this, and can you PLEASE explain it to me so I can understand it better step by step? :??:
