Hello there all!

I recently got a single 4gb 1600mhz PC3 (DDR3) stick of ram.

the specs of my computer before the upgrade are as follows:

Mobo: ASUS P5H77-M pro
CPU: Clarkdale i3 3.06ghz dual core
GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 760
RAM: Patriot G Series 4x2gb 1333mhz

As many motherboard enthusiasts will probably know, the board only supports a max of 1333mhz ram speed.

after I got the new RAM, I removed the G Series Ram and plugged in the new ram, which is NANYA 4gb 1333mhz to test it out, and ran into an issue.

I usually go into the BIOS to see if the RAM is functioning properly before rebooting into the operating system, which is now Windows 8.1, however, once I get into BIOS settings, after a few seconds, the whole system shuts down, similar to if one holds down the power button for 7 seconds.

I took the new ram out and put a single stick of the old G Series back in, and it booted fine.

Is there a compatibility issue with my BIOS perhaps? or is it just the simple fact that my ram won't work?

I've heard that it shouldn't cause the system to shut down, since it would just drop it down to 1333mhz instead of 1600mhz, though I'm not sure if that's true.

would love some help!
