Radeon 6950 becoming too hot?

Since day 1, sometime in 2011 when I bought this card I've felt that it always ran too hot. Currently I'm playing WildStar, but with games such as GW2, Rift, Diablo 3, ESO, etc, it hits temps of about 180F as well, I've seen it as high as 198F last summer. The room temperature is usually around 65-72F. Curious if this is something I should be concerned about. Do these cards just run hot? It is still under warranty, should I get in contact with them?

Thanks for your time.

First thing would be to check if the fans are still working well. Fans that don't spin don't cool.

Second thing to know is that most video card manufacturers put absolutely crap thermal paste on the heatsink to GPU.

I have replaced the thermal paste on all my GPU's i have owned in the past as soon as I have purchased and on average run them much cooler than before.

Try that anyway, otherwise have a search and find out what the stock load and non-load temps should be, if yours is way above then return the card if under warranty.

Fans are spinning, quite loudly too. I'll have a look at some typical temps. Thanks.

Okay, so after some digging around, people are saying 90C at full load. My card is idling at mid 60C. My fan speed is cranked to 53%, and it's at 94C just sitting in WildStar doing nothing. I guess I'll contact warranty support to see what they have to say.
