my kid has the same gpu in an msi laptop. there are a few ways to tell which gpu is running. on the msi, when the nvidia card is in use, the led on the power button turns orange for nvidia, blu for the onboard intel graphics. second it instal either msi afterburner or evga prescion( i perfer the evga) when it installs it asks to install riva tuner. if you go to the settings in either afterburner or prescion, go to monitoring and choose the things you would like to see in an on screen display, like temps, fps, usage eg. go to the next tab over , which is osd and put toggle on screen display to f1 key or whichever you like. now start a game, if it doesnt have a display in the corner, hit f1. you should see it now , if its pink its nvidia, black is onboard. a few games, for whatever reason, wont trigger tthe nvidia card. off hand i think metal gear and castlevainia lords of shadows 2. if thats the case, you have to go to nvidia control panel and enable the gpu for those games, or just change the global setting to the nvidia card in manage 3d settings.
i hope i wasnt too confusing
