My wireless account is with Comcast Internet Essentials. This, incidentally, is their way of "reaching out" to low income families by offering "low budge" wireless. They sent me a box with a Motorola surfboard modem. Model# 585101. This came with an ethernet cable. I called what they refer to as tech support and told them that the router is missing in my 'self starter' package. I was told the package is complete. So I guess their idea of low income wireless networking is plugging an ethernet cable into my Macbook Pro... For about 5 months, we continued to pay our ATT bill which had recently increased dramatically from the original $14.99 a month. In this time frame, I accumulated 2 older linksy routers and then decided to just work, for now, with the cisco/linksy E1000. If we ever had a disk, I cannot find any software for the E1000. How might I find and download this. Once I have the required software, how do I configure this router with a security password etc... Thank you, 61valentines

Comcast Internet Essentials claims to offer a low-cost Internet connection. I can't see anything about "wireless" in their advertising material. You are correct that their idea of a low-cost Internet connection is to plug the modem into the computer via a USB port or an ethernet cable. I think that you need to add a separate wireless router if you want cableless connections.

Software and/or manuals for your existing equipment should be available on the manufacturer's website.

Edit: Just noticed this in the Comcast FAQ:

Quote:

Can I set up a wireless network (WiFi) in my home?

Yes. Although Internet Essentials does not include a wireless router, if you already own a wireless router or choose to purchase one it can be connected to the Internet Essentials provided modem.

It looks like they have supplied all they promised to.
