Struggling to keep Crossfire setup cool enough

Hi,

I've got 2 MSI Twinfrozr R9 290s. When I mine with a single card I settle at about 85C on the GPU core. If I mine with both the higher card hits 95C quickly and starts throttling. I've tried swapping card positions which discounts any thoughts that it may be a bad card.

I'm assuming the heat off the backplate of the lower card is then getting drawn into the second card which is causing the added heat?

I have a side-fan intaking over the cards and generally speaking my airflow setup is 'standard'.

Any suggestions? Is this a common problem in SLI/Xfire?

Thanks

I thought as much. Sadly water isn't an option as these cards are non-reference. So quiet and rarely over 83C on their own :(
