First don't panic
If you have another user account or can boot up in safe mode the problem probably can be fixed
But it requires using the registry editor so is not for the faint hearted
Sorry I am on a tablet and do not have link to hand. I found it by googling the error message you stated, printed out the instructions & followed them

don't freak out man here is a simple fix just follow instructions word for word i had this problem for months almost through away computer until i came across the solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215/en-us Click on Method 1 fix the user account it will allow you to to this in safe mode press F8 before your windows start up

What happens if the problem is occurring under the administrators profile? I can't rename anything using my kids login.
