Im considering buying a psu , cpu and I've decided fully on the graphics card I wanna get.
Im content on a gtx 480 because of its price and performance and because I've seen it can perform well.
I need help with what cpu and psu i should get , acknowledging that my budget is like £250 - £300 including the 480. would a phenom ii x4 do? for high-ultra settings on modern games like far cry 3 and that? and what psu i mean like what branding? could ya'll direct me to one considering the 480 needs like 600 watts or something ...

thanks guys

There.

The GTX480 supports DX11, the nvidia 400 series and AMD 5000 series were the first generation to do so.

The 480, 570, and 650 Ti are similar in performance, the 650 Ti will require significantly less power than the 480, but it comes down to what you can get at a reasonable price.

For the PSU the xfx 550w units tend to be a good price, also take a look at the Seasonic S12II series, they are a bit older but are still good units that will power any of those three cards fine.

It's alright. But not very good.
It will run games at low-medium presets, and is decently priced.

From the site it seems like you're based in the UK, which I can help you out with.
For 250 - 300 Euros, a GPU, CPU, and PSU will be a tight squeeze.

My advice is the GPU should me more than the CPU, and if you can it should be double.
I've chosen a very strong CPU, which is a great overclocker. (Get an aftermarket cooler for any serious OC.)
Also a good GPU too, which will play most games on high - ultra detail. Plus, an XFX PSU.
450W's might not be enough depending on what you do, so you can always upgrade that as you please.
