Asus router firmware upgrade failed?

Hello everybody, this is my first post here

I seem to have failed pretty hard, but I don't know where or how I did so.

I was trying to upgrade the firmware of my ASUS RT-N12B1 router. I downloaded the most recent firmware off the asus website, logged into the router, and went through the gui steps to upgrade. All seemed to go well. I got a prompt to power cycle the router, so I did.

The router then went kaput, sorta. This is where it gets weird. Normally, when you upgrade the firmware or reset, it shows up as a wireless network named "ASUS", where you connect and set everything up. No such network. Reset, power cycle, wait, no such network.

OK, something must really be wrong. Connect through ethernet cable, response is very limited (computer recognizes it's connected to something, I think, but I can't ping 192.168.1.1 or connect to it through browser. I tried this with and without static IP).

Tried to put it in recovery mode and flash a new firmware to it using ASUS's recovery tool, didn't work. It goes into recovery mode, but again, the computer can't detect it.

Tried a host of other things on random forums, but none of it works. Here are the symptoms for now.

It will power on, power light remains on steadily. Other lights (LAN, WAN) will be on/flashing if I turn on the router with them plugged in, but if I unplug one while it's on, the light remains on. Can't get it to connect to anything. I CAN get it into recovery mode, but again, it won't connect to anything.

Please help me out guys
thanks again

I just did the same thing - forgot that I was on a wireless connection as I'm working on a new computer. Thought I'd made a brick, but connected up an ethernet cable to the router, pushed reset, connected to the router, ran setup again. It has the new firmware as the menu and colors are different. Probably you just lost the wireless configuration. Good luck to you.

hope I'm not making a duplicate post - in the process of signing up ...
