Anyone else disappointed with state of video games in 2014?

I hate to be that guy, but I really thought that in the year 2014 (or 2013), we would be in a better place with video gaming. Sure, Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 look alright, but compared to Crysis 1 (2007 release 7 years ago), I really don't think huge strides have been made in graphical quality, physics, AI, or distance rendering. 2 years ago I bought a Radeon 7970 thinking that by now I'd be immersed in some crazy stuff. I know graphics aren't everything, but I can assume we are all excited for video games to more closely resemble reality.

At any other point in time, 7 years made a HUGE difference. Compare 2007 (Crysis) with 2000 (FF IX). or 2000 with 1992 (Wolfenstein 3D) and so on. Is it because of a plateau in the development process (ie costs too much money and make a world that detailed), or a plateau in hardware cost : performance ratio, or am I just wrong in my opinion?

Well for me its an ok year not that great but ok,well maybe this 2014 games will be better.I think that the previous console is just holding back the pc capabilities, well we have now ps4 and xbox one,So i think we will have a improvement in terms of visual/graphics and a new directX will be coming too!

Well about the huge difference in 2000 we don't have much option for the 3d things those days, and we have not an unreal engine or something I think, like back in 2000 tv was so huge and now we can even put it in a wall and never get bumped in to it.

I wished I can talk english more clearly, not my first language.

I am not a fan of ultra technology games like the crysis so I havent played crysis. But I have seen it. You should play AC4 if you like that genre and maybe your disappointment goes away with it. I mean it really has very nice graphics.

As far as resolution and frame rate, we'll always see advances. Gameplay and immersion are harder to quantify, because they are subject to interpretation. Personally, I like the fact that humor can find its way into games like BL2, and wish there were more games like that.

One argument I'll have is that not all games can or should look "real." Sure, there's a place for that, but sometimes a cartoon look is a factor that makes a game excellent.
