So after a few years of trouble on Comcasts end, they switched out my modem for a wireless modem/gateway. I had previously been using an Asus RT N65U, and was able to manage my bandwidth via the router control panel.
After building my brother a PC last night and getting him connected to my network, I find that whenever he downloads anything it sucks up all the bandwidth on the network completely. Another problem entirely, but even when his wireless card was only getting 5mbs and d/l at 300k ( every other PC d/ls at over 3mb) it was still sucking up all the bandwidth. Nearly impossible to even browse the web on any other pc.
The problem is Comcasts gateway control panel has no way to manage bandwidth. I would like to be able to shut off the Comcast gateway's wireless ability and just use it as a modem with my Asus router providing the wireless , but that doesnt seem to be possible. At the moment, I have the Asus router connected to the Comcast gateway via ethernet. While any device I have can connect to the Asus network, it will only provide internet access to 1 device at a time.
Any thing I can do? Or do I just need to switch out the Comcast gateway for a regular modem and go back to my router? Thanks!
