Hi guys,

Here's my background, I am a PC Technician, and have been servicing PCs and notebooks alike for the past 3 years. So I have enough technical knowledge to understand detailed explanataions.

Here's my problem:

I have a PC set up with the mainboard ASROCK G41M-VGS3.

It has the Intel Core2 Duo E6650 (FSB-1333MHz), and 2 RAM sticks:
1x Kingston 2GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600)
1x Corsair 4GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) Part No.: CMVGX3M1A1333C9

I upgraded the Core2 DUo CPU from a Pentium D Cpu and installed the mentioned above 4GB RAM just now. I also set the FSB jumper to 2-3 as instructed on the Mainboard and ASUS website.

BIOS only detects the 2GB RAM stick. The other RAM slot displays that nothing is installed in it.

Windows 7 32bit is installed (States that only 2GB RAM is installed and 1.75GB), should detect 6GB of RAM and use around 4GB of RAM since it's a 32bit OS.

PC boots fine but doesn't detect all the RAM.

I ran ASTRA32 and displays both memory sticks (that's strange since BIOS doesn't detect the 4GB RAM stick).

I went to the ASROCK website and only the G41M-VS3 is available over there. and there are some BIOS updates which might solve the issue. But I tried to run the Windows Bios UPdate (Updates from Windows), and said that there's an invalid chip or something. I downloaded the Instant Flash Version, put it on a FAT32 formatted USB stick, rebooted, pressed F6 and finds no compatible BIOS updates (but detects the USB stick)

Apparently the only difference between the G41M-VGS3 and the G41M-VS3 is the network card.

I also attempted to change the DRAM FSB Frequency from the BIOS and DRAM voltages but to no avail. I also swapped the RAM and RAM slots, still to no avail. And if I start the PC with the 4GB RAM stick only, the PC doesn't boot.

This is the ASROCK link:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/g41m-vs3%20r2.0/

I also found a PDF manual for the G41M-VGS3, and lists both Mainboards.

Can anyone help me with this issue? Most probably if I update the BIOS to a more recent version, where RAM compatability is improved, my issue will be solved.
I always update the BIOS as the last resort, but in this case, it's the only way for a solution.

Please help.

From G.Skill, the memory manufacturer, FAQs:

Q:
I want to install more memory, in addition to my existing memory kit. What are my options?

A:
We do not recommend mixing memory kits, regardless of brand or model.

By mixing memory kits together, there may be compatibility issues such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

Each of our memory kit are thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility within each memory kit. And because we have not tested our memory kit with your existing memory kit, we cannot guarantee compatibility when multiple kits are used.

Hi Thanks for your reply, the issue was with the new RAM stick. I returned it back to my supplier, they tested it and it resulted that it was faulty. I tried out the replacement RAM and it worked properly.
So for the late reply (I hope my message helps other people :)
