Alright, so I have this Dell XPS Studio 8300. Wanted to put a new HDD in it also add a small SSD for the OS. Well got a Samsung Evo 120gb, installed windows 7 fresh everything went fine. (I did these 1 at a time.) then I went and put in the HDD its a WD Caviar green 1 tb. (old one was crapping out on me.) Connected the sata cable and power cable. It went into Slot 3 on the Motherboard. SSD is slot 1, Optical drive is 2. Here is the problem , the 1 tb HDD does not show up anywhere, disk managment, Bios, nothing. I did some playing around switching the connectors around on the Motherboard. Moved optical connecter to slot 3 and the WD HDD to slot 2. Now the optical drive does not show up nor the WD drive. So I switched them back and now its just the HDD again.

Do you think this could be a problem with my Motherboard? Or Maybe just got a bad Hard drive?

Thanks for the help.

I would agree with that. You might look into getting a replacement. If it is under warranty it should not be too hard to get the manufacturer to replace it, otherwise you can look into getting a new board (I recently picked up a nice motherboard in new condition for about $32 including shipping) - just depends on which board and where you go.

Unfortunately it could be either. Try swapping the hard drive to a different port and yhat will show if it is the drive or the port on the motherboard.

Also if the drive is not vibrating it is likely the drive is bad. If drive vibrates but is not showing try a different cable if it does not work in second port.

Well, It does vibrate, and I also tried another HDD from a diff computer in the house that I know works. Both were vibrating just not showing up, I guess it is the mother board then.
