So I just bought three new parts: i5 4670k, Gigabyte Z87X-D3H and MSI GTX 770.
I'm on day 2 of trying to troubleshoot why these parts aren't working.
TL;DR Issue: No display when GTX 770 is in the PCIEx16 slot (can't view BIOS or anything).
Tested Scenarios:
- Different GPU (Radeon HD 6850)-> Works.
- GTX 770 in PCIEx8 -> Works to boot and view bios, but loses picture when driver is attempted to be installed.
- GTX 770 in PCIEx16 of different motherboard -> Works.
- iGPU only -> Works
System boots when iGPU is enabled with display connected to it and device manager detects GTX 770, but still doesn't work.
Attempted Solutions:
- Fresh Windows install (8.1 Pro x64)
- BIOS Settings Tested: PCIE Gen 2, Gen 3 and Auto | Secure Boot Disabled/Enabled | iGPU Enabled/Disabled
System:
i5 4670k
Gigabyte Z87X-D3H
GTX 770
Corsair HX650W
4x4GB Corsair Vengence
When it comes to hard drives, it appears the Z87 chipset has issues with old Sandforce drives (of which I have 2 OCZ Vertex 2's) so I'd intermittently have the boot drive being detected. I've since changed my boot drive (only drive connected) to a WD Blue 320GB.
Old System (GTX 770 works fine):
Phenom II x4 955
Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H
(Same PSU, RAM and HDD)
