Hi :)  I just finished putting together a build on PCPartPicker and it gave me this error message: "Some Intel X79 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Ivy Bridge-E CPUs." Question is, how would I go about updating the BIOS "prior to using Ivy Bridge-E CPUs"? Please leave your thoughts!

Here is the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/alannm37/saved/3ZzT

It means your bios are outdated, when bios become out of date it reduces compatibility with intel CPU's. This actually happened to me with my AMD Motherboard, go to your manufacturers website and find the page for the motherboard you have, you should find a the bios tab in the bottom, after installing it restart the computer and enter the bios, and you should see the bios update somewhere. CAUTION: This is a delicate process!! If your computer turns off during installation it will badly damage the System, so I recommend backing up your current bios, you should watch a tutorial if you don't know where the stuff I said is. Some motherboards can update the bios without the CPU Installed, check your Motherboard manual and read the articles from Gaming God above.

BIOS handles almost everything on the motherboard included the processor itself, so it may need an update to handle newer CPUs. I see you did get it with the error message, so I think maybe you could ask your seller to equip the motherboard with a particular BIOS version in order to support your Ivy Bridge-E CPU.

Here's your motherboard's CPU support list, there says what BIOS you need for your CPU. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87A/#support
