Hey guys, I'm reusing a Patriot Inferno 120gb SSD from my previous build with a new mb, cpu, and ram. However, after gettting the system to post and boot into Windows 8.1 the first time, it has started behaving oddly. The SSD only appears in the BIOS intermittently (and thus can't boot into Windows).. after 6-10 restarts it'll pop up again and I can boot just fine. Any ideas what might be causing this?
So far I've tried different SATA cables and ports on the mb, including the "known good" for the dvd drive that shows up consistently. Is the SSD dying or do I just need new firmware? Or is there a setting or something I'm not aware of?

New build includes: Asus Maximus VI Formula motherboard, i7 4770k cpu, and G.Skill Trident X 2666 ram (2x8gb).
Reusing from previous build: Antec 750W PSU, EVGA GTX 770 SC, and misc other components such as cooling loop, case, etc.

Solution

Yes, make sure your SSD is on its latest firmware version.
Also make sure that your motherboard's BIOS is on the latest version 1.5.

Thanks for the input, turns out the SSD I have is simply too old for the current hardware upgrades (per Patriot technical support). Annoying, but provided the excuse to go pick up a Samsung 840 Pro, so I suppose that's something.
