Power Supply Question

I'm thinking about building a photo editing workstation where the wattage is in the 340/350 range. Can I get away with a 520 watt platinum PSU or should I instead go for something in the 650 watt range? I ask bc I'm interested in energy efficiency. Not sure if 650 PSU would result in higher power consumption over a 520 PSU on the same rig.

I don't think the power consumption would be higher based on the rated watts. It all depends on the load the PSU is under. The 650w should use the same power as the 520 on the same load, though the 650w watt would be more future proof.\

Edit: Though a PSU's efficiency varies greatly between models and brands. That is something to take into consideration when choosing a PSU. May I ask which PSUs you are looking at?

if you are interested in efficiency, you have to find a psu with a platinum rating, and its wattage should be equal to twice your average power draw. This is because psu are most efficient at 50% load.

Is your budget flexible at all?

I would suggest a Corsair AX760 for $20 more
