I'm currently using the Geforce GT 220 1gig:

The fan on it is going out. I want to buy a new card. I've performed maintenance on this card so many times. The fan itself is finally starting to die out which seems to be a recurring theme with this specific unit. I play games like Skyrim, Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft on medium settings with decent (lol) framerates but I want a card that can either do that as well as the one I have now or slightly better. Preferably slightly better. Something that won't break down, doesn't have an unstable or insanely loud fan and will last me at least another year before exploding.

My budget is 50-100 dollars and here is my setup:

Win XP (please don't kill me)
3 gig ram
AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor 4450e 2.3 ghz
550 watt PSU

I have an old machine and a limited budget. Pretty sure I also have a single slot video card. I'm just starting to figure out the difference between single and dual since the last time I had to buy a card it wasn't really a common issue. I'm a bit scared if I spend money on a dual slot, it either won't work in my setup or won't fit.

Here is the inside of my tower where the card is:

Top of the card-

Bottom-

Think there's enough room for a dual slot card? There was a dialup card above the video card but I removed it. However, you can see there are capacitors above the video card. Would a dual slot even be able to fit there or would it just sit over the capacitors and not touch it? Trying to make sure I cover all my bases since I have a limited budget and an older machine.

Any suggestions for a good replacement card given this information? I don't really care if it is single or dual, I just want it to work and work as well if not better than the gt 220 I have now.

That's absolutely fine. PCI-e 2 or 3 doesn't matter - they are backwards compatible and would only cost about 1% performace loss is any. The 7770 is a huge upgrade over what you have.

Do you mean the pin type on the end of the wires coming from the PSU? Pretty certain it's 20+4 pin type.

It's this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013

Guy in the video says 'twenty four' pin main motherboard connector with a bit on the end for a '4 extra' for use on an older 20 pin motherboard, he says it has a PCI express 6 plus 2 power connector, EPS or ATX 4 plus 4 pin connector "four pins for ATX, 8 pins for EPS".

Are you certain a PCI-e 3.0 would work on my machine? My current card is 2.0.

Sounds good. Though, just to make sure, two more questions.

Do I have to worry about the capacitors above the video card slot being in the way of the dual slot you suggested?

See how the capacitors are right above the card slot? They're slightly shorter than the card slot so I don't think it'd be an issue.

And, secondly, do I have to worry about the card bottlenecking my other weaker parts?
