sata hdd through eSata port

I have a need to hook up an old standard sata internal hdd through a eSata port. It'd a former hard drive and I want to pull some old data off it.

It's a long story, but due a bizarre mobo issue, I need to do this through an eSata port.

How do I accomplish this?

If the "bizare" issue is that the HDD does not work when you plug it directly to the motherboard, you probably won't have much more success going through eSATA since that ultimately connect to the same SATA controller. I have two HDDs that mysteriously stopped liking my motherboards' SATA ports but still work perfectly fine using external USB2/3 HDD enclosures.

Not sure what a USB dock or cable is? Can you give me more information? I guess I don't care how it happens, I just can't hook it up to a standard SATA port due to some issues with my mobo. Or at least I don't want to try.

Can you give more information regarding these solutions? I don't care about slow speeds, it will literally be a one time thing.

The issue appears to be with my mobo. I recently upgraded to a SSD + HDD Combo. Getting these two drives to work was a total pain. My mobo has six SATA ports, but some of them were failing, or they would work, and then they wouldn't. It took for ever to get it up and working, so I don't want to try and add a new drive. I'm trying to get at least another year out of my current build and really don't want to go through the hassle of getting my drives to work and add a third HDD to the mix.

Will each of these options provide power to the drive? As well as being able to transfer the data?

Yes.
I have one of the cable things linked above, and it is very useful in getting data off old drives. Assuming the drives actually work.

Thanks! I am fairly confident the old drive works. I wanted to pull it off while upgrading my PC, but ran into problems. Sounds like this will work. MUCH APPRECIATED!

I used my cable doodad just today, checking out an old HDD to replace a possibly dead drive in my HTPC.
