COD Ghosts resolution/aspect ratio problem PLEASE HELP!

Ok I am playing COD Ghosts and I set my aspect ratio to wide 16:9 ( my monitor is 16:9 wide). Then I set my resolution to 1280x720 (720p) but it does NOT look like 720p. It looks stretched upwards or downwards , either way. Everything seems too, "tall". I watched a video of a guy with the same exact settings and his looked normal. Also no matter what resolution I choose with the 16:9 aspect ratio... it alll looks the same it doesnt make it less "tall" or stretched upwards n downwards... PLEASE HELP!

set aspect ratio to auto and what is ur max resolution of ur monitor ?

max res is 1680x1050 and its a 16:9 monitor and yea I had it on auto but the menu dont take up the whole screen when I have it on auto and for some reason when I put my aspect ratio on 16:9 I get better frames.. so I HAD it on auto w 720p but it did not run as well.. I seen a video and the guys aspect ratio was on 16:9 w a res of 720p .. his did NOT look tall it looked perfect.. so why would I have to change mine to auto?
