I am running Windows Home Premium 64bit.

I have a factory installed 2 gig stick installed in my Compaq Presario CQ5700F.These are the specs from the website that pertain to the RAM.

Dual channel memory architecture
Two DDR3 DIMMs (240-pin) sockets
PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
Supports 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB DDR3 DIMMs
Supports up to 8 GB on 64-bit systems (DIMMs run at DDR3-1066)
Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit PCs I purchased a Crucial 4GB Single DDR3 1333 MT/s (PC3-10600) CL9 Unbuffered UDIMM 240-Pin Desktop Memory Module CT51264BA1.

I purchased this: Crucial 4GB Single DDR3 1333 MT/s (PC3-10600) CL9 Unbuffered UDIMM 240-Pin Desktop Memory Module CT51264BA1

When I instal it, the tower powers up, but goes no further. No POST beeps, no HDD activity, no BIOS screen. Nothing. Just the fans running.

I think that perhaps I need two of the same size sticks, so I remove the 2 gig fact stick, and try just new 4gig in first slot1, then slot two. Same result both times.

Reinsert 2 gig and it works fine in both slots.

Then I tried 4 gig in slot one, and 2 in slot 2. No dice.

So, did I buy the wrong stick of RAM? Or is this a bad stick?

If it was bad, you would probably get a beep from the BIOS.
