Linksys EA6200 2.4 GHz band speed too slow.

I've been on the Linksys support forums for this issue, and I've been googling it all day, but have gotten no results.

I currently pay for 100 Mbps download 20 Mbps upload internet. With the 5GHz band I get roughly that speed, maybe a little bit slower. The fastest I've achieved on the 2.4 GHz band was around 32 down 22 up.

I've tinkered with the various channels, the channel width, toggling WMM, toggling Media Prioritization, and nothing has brought the speeds up.

Am I missing something huge? Is Linksys just shafting me on the router?

Thanks for any help.

It's likely that there's too much interference from other networks on the 2.4GHz band - that's why there's the 5GHz band in the first place.

How many other nearby networks are there?

InSSIDer is a useful tool to see what channel is best - but you'll need to get v2 or v3, because they want to charge for v4.

There's a good bit, and I've been tinkering with the other channels to see if that helps. I think I found one that got it to top out at the aforementioned highest. I guess I'll give InSSIDer a go.

I'd use the 5 GHz band more, but things like my Xbox don't support it.

Interestingly enough, putting my network on channel 10 with 20 MHz width provides the highest link score on InSSIDer. Still not close, maybe all the networks interfering is just what's slowing it down and I can't do anything to change that.

The channels are 20mhz wide (or 40 if your run that way). There are only 3 non overlapping channels 1,6,11. If you were to pick say 8 then you would overlap the users that use 6 AND the users that use 11. What is really bad is if you use 40mhz channels you need to use 1,6 or 6,11. This means you are always at risk for interference in the middle of the band.

In this case the tin foil hat guys are not crazy you have a huge amount of signals coming in from all over the place and you need to cover your walls and ceilings with metal to prevent it. :)

Yeah, it's weird though. When I test 1, 6, and 11 I get mediocre link scores, as well as mediocre results. But 2 and 10 give me the higher link scores, and I think I actually got the best data rate at channel 10.

I'm in California. I split the bands up so I could keep the 5GHz band to myself, whereas any friends or whoever that visit can use the 2.4 GHz. Also, few wireless devices I have like my Xbox 360 only handles 2.4 GHz.

Also, having the bands run together still gave me crappy speeds. I figured splitting them up would help me tweak them individually so I could get the most outta both.
