My wi-fi keeps needing to be reset due to IP issues.

I have a windows 8 laptop and have been having issues with my wi-fi turning onto limited. I'm not tech savvy btw. When I use the troubleshooter, it says that it needs to reconfigure my ip address and fixes the problem for a few minutes at best. My blue tooth is off. So I searched forums and here's what I've tried so far:
-CMD (as admin) ipconfig/release and renew both said they couldn't do it with the LAN, ethernet, and bluetooth media disabled
-CMD (as admin) netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
-My linksys wi-fi properties and making sure all ip settings are on automatic
-my ping test failed as well

right now my internet is working but I fear it's only a matter of time before i'm troubleshooting again.

More about needing reset due issues
  1. -CMD (as admin) ipconfig/flushdns --- clears a cache...

have you tried plugging it into the router (ehternet) to see if it has the same issue?

Yes I've unplugged it for anywhere ranging from 30 seconds to several minutes and it doesn't change anything unfortunately.
  3. no... plug the laptop in and test the network speed... does it perform correctly? If not you may have a trojan in there mucking it up.

My internet works perfectly fine when it's plugged in.
  5. Do you have any other wifi devices? iPhone/Android phone laptop? Test the spped with the ookla free speedtest tool..

Check the laptop mfg's support site for 8/8.1 driver updates for the Laptop (all, not just WiFi and including BIOS/Firmware)
