My brothers pc will not connect through ethernet wall port. was working fine yesterday. i can use the same cable to connect directly to router, but my mother will not allow the cable to trail across the hall. what can i do to fix this?
i have tried:
spraying the wall port with canned air
switching the cable ports(move port connecting pc to that of wall port)
and restarting whole network.
nothing seems to work. what can i do to fix this?

Very nice. I see Ethernet cables go bad at work randomly. Most likely from being pinched and bent, even if it's just slightly, and temperature changes that cause the metal to expand/contract.
Glad you figured it out!

yeah it wasnt hard. moved computer closer to wall port to test connection with differnt cable. worked fine. cant put computer there, no space for desk, but yup i suspect it was heat. his psu runs pretty hot. its nzxt so is this normal for them?

Ethernet cables typically don't go bad if they just lay there in non-fluctuating temperature, so I wouldn't say normal. Users at work are always moving equipment around, so normal at work, yes.
Nothing you did wrong, it may have already been failing when you bought it. The way some companies "certify" cables are crap...

joshbgosh10592,
my dad made this cable i dont know maybe 10 years ago... its an old cable that has con through many computers, he used it to help repair friends computers. i imagine that the nzxt powersupply that runs really hot, may have ended the cable. its not a company cable as far as i know. like i said, old cable
