45c hmm..... its ok but you should be able to play skyrim at the lowest settings without lag a 1240 x 1024p

ok thanks what else could be causing my lag then because i have been playing it fine for a few weeks but now when i go on it it will be fine for about 5 mins then my whole computer will start lagging and then ill exit the game and generally a few programs will crash and sometimes even windows explorer crashes

Have you checked the temps of your other parts (CPU, HDD, etc.)? Also what antivirus do you have? Be sure to do a virus scan on your pc.

i have done a few full scans with AVG over the past few days and i have checked the other temps and at the moment they are

Motherboard-42c

CPU-34c

HDD 42c

GPU-47c

and i was playing about an hour ago and since then all i've done is listen to songs on youtube. i also yesterday did a disk defrag and that didn't do anything.

Well those temps seem to be ok. Have you installed any new mods to Skyrim? Also does this happen with other games and programs or just Skyrim? Also if you don't already have these: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3097857 Try if any of those could increase your fps.

EDIT: As stated in the comment above, check your ram usage. How much ram you do you have?

i have a few mods but i have had them for a few weeks now and it was running fine and it does happen with other games pretty much all my games also it is fine to play for a little while getting about 40fps but then after about 5-10 mins it just drops dramatically

On a completely different note, are your drivers up to date?
