Problems with my RAM - wrong timings?

Hello community,

since yesterday I am suffering from a problem.
My newly built computer started showing me BSOD`s yesterday (every time different STOP codes, all related with memory) and I started testing my computer. By the way, here are my specs

Intel Core i7 4930k - stock frequency
Asus Rampage IV Extreme with the latest BIOS
Gainward 780GTX Phantom
Enermax Platimax 750W PSU
2 x 8 GB GeIL Memory kit, EVO Leggera PC3 12800

I started memtest and at test 2 it was showing 32k+ errors, and at the rest of the tests 64k+ errors.

I looked the timing up for my memory kit, the kit is rated for 10-10-10-28. However, I cannot run them in these settings, the PC wont even boot into UEFI and I have to CMOS reset. After a little bit of fiddling with timings and voltages I set for 11-11-11-28 with 2T command rate @ 1.65V .
But I am still getting an error im memtest, in the second pass (see screenshots below). I cannot believe my RAM is bad since its new, however my system seems to be running somewhat stable (there seem to be some slowdowns?).

have I set up something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Even thought he memory is new it's completely possible that it could be bad or the memory slot is bad. I suggest you test each stick individually and then in different memory slots so that you can tell one way or the other.

I have already tested each ram slot. It appears to happen at random with both sticks.
And with LGA2011 platforms , AFAIK you cannot swap them to different slots because there is a specific order in which you have to put the sticks in.

Do you happen to have another system you can test the memory in? As mentioned before it is totally possible that the one or both could be bad and just because it happens at random with both sticks doesn't eliminate the memory slot from being bad.

I would have to go to a friend, but I sure can do that. Might take me a day or so.

But it seems that albeit the RAM is getting me an error my system seems stable. been running since 6 hours without a problem (just a short visual glitch, but that may have been due to tabbing in and out of multiple games)

I have had another bluescreen.

BUT I have investigated some other points of failure and I think another reason for my RAM failing is overheating!
After the bluescreen, I immediately ran memtest86 and it gave me load of errors. I went to check the DIMMS and the left one was extremely hot to the touch. This matched memtests report that adresses from ~500 to 8GB are failing.

After some time I ran memtest again and voila no errors.
I have now installed another 120mm fan directly above the VRM and the right DIMM. Maybe that will help.

Okay. It has been proven that the cause of my problems was overheating.

Testing at my friends computer showed no signs of bluescreens or errors im memtest. We then proceeded to heat up the sticks carefully with a hairdryer et voila, we got 100k+ errors.

The solution with the added fan ontop of the vrm seems to work. I dont have bluescreens anymore.

My airflow was quite poor. Got two 140mm fans on 100% pulling air into the case and just a single 120mm fan behind a 120 rad running at aprox. 50% pulling air out of the case. Hot air got stuck at the top of the case heating up the vrm and the ram. I cared to measure the temps with a thermoprobe. Before I installed another fan at the top of the case, I measured 65 °C at the main vrm heatsink , 63°C at the left and 55°C as the maximum temperature. The system is unstable at that temperature.

As I said, another fan added ontop of the case fixed the problem
