Hi,

I built this computer with an amd a10-5800k.

My temps according to CPUID run from ~ 39 to 86 degrees C. THat seems hot to me.

I just built the system and all i have done thus far is down load / install software.

The case is an Antec - one case .........

Any ideas? what should i do?


another comment.....temp is up and down up and down........not sure whats going on.

The 5800K should be staying under 63C.

Double check that the CPU cooler is seated properly and the fan is spinning properly.
If yes, then remove it and re-apply fresh thermal paste of removing the old paste.
Reseat cooler and see if there is improvement.

is there a chance the reading is just wrong or incorrect?

I did notice that as the cpu usage goes up the temp goes up. actually went up to 86 degrees C. now i am not a master builder or anything but i have built 4 systems and this iss the first time this kind of thing has happened.

freaking out ......

ok.....i will have to go out and buy some thermal paste so i may not be able to respond today.......but i will try.

one more question........the reason i question the cpu temp is because i would have thought the bios would have flagged the high temp and shut down.......ie...if the max suggested operating temp is 74C then i would have thought the bios would have flagged this temp and shut down.......but it may be that i have to put this value into the bios....

If you are not sure if the temps are accurate (I doubt it), download Speccy, it shows the temps of your components including the CPU.
Follow Novuake's advice though ^^

I run 34 degrees idle, 45 degrees max while gaming. I'm using the Hyper TX3 as aftermarket cooler.
If you get it to run at about these temps, you should be fine.
60 degrees is about the max for a CPU to last a long time, 70-80 is not good :l.

Have you already looked at other people having the same problem with the CPU?
Also, I don't know if this will change a lot, but have you checked the airflow?

Another victim of HWMonitor's Package temperature assumption. Your temps are normal if HWMonitor shows 86C max. with the stock heatsink. That 86C is just an assumption of the internal temperature of the CPU because the thermal diode is somewhere inside the socket. Check the TMPIN0, that's the temperature BIOS is showing for the CPU and I bet that's showing you maximum 50C when HWMonitor is showing 86C. So don't worry, your CPU temperature is quite normal.

ok....my TMPINO temp measurement is fine........

now the temps in the pic are at IDLE which does not show the 70C to 80C I spoke of.........the 70C to 80C I spoke of appear in the cpu=>Temperatures=>package section.

I will try this other program that was mentioned..........but can someone comment on what temperature I should be looking at before I take this thing apart?

I downloaded the speccy program......the cpu temp indicated here agrees with the HWMonitor package value. But neither of these temp values are the TMPINO measurement value...........

is the TMPINO value what I should be looking at

ok well that was a waste of my time.........maybe not but no difference. i cleaned thermal paste off cpy and heatsink. RE-applied thermal paste to cpu. Reconnected all the cables and such.........and .........same as before........maybe even a little higher temps being recorded now............


OK.....NOW I AM FREAKING OUT..............

does anyone have any thoughts.........i noticed no one repsonded to my questions earlier about what exact value i should be using from the HW monitor software.

what do i do now?

that value is your cpu fan, whats cooling the cpu. if its at 100% and cooling it to 40 degrees, then it should sound like a jet is taking off. i suggest getting a aftermarket cooler. a cheap one is the cooler master hyper 212, around $35. a better one is a noctua nh d14, but that is large and might not fit the case. or you can water cool it, giving you really low temperatures. something like a corsair h60 would do, h80i is the most you'll need

ok....I will look into an aftermarket cpu cooler..........but what makes you think its the cooler? I have one, granted stock, but I am not really doing anything on the machine and getting (well don't know really because no one has answer the question which temp reading am I supposed to be using) high or suspected high readings...........

I am at a loss as to how to proceed.........so much for a budget build here.

sorry to sound so negative but I am just not sure whats actually wrong..............my guess is either the cpu or the cooler........I just don't know which one.

The speccy temperature says 41 degrees? That is about oke... You do not have an aftermarket cooler. I have one and my CPU temp drops to 34 degrees when idle. 41 degrees is a realistic figure, no problems at all. The other program might be bugged?
