Hi! I have windows 8 currently on my PC. I have a Windows 8.1 disc and I would like to update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 via the disc. Im unable to update from the store. When I put the disc in a windows 8 program appears, and then it starts preparing. Once it gets to 96% it no longer does and activity and after a minute the program shuts down.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi
That link talks about the type of windows supplied to big companies where the IT Department would deal with upgrades

Or problems such as not having windows updates uptodate

What version of windows 8 do you have,?
Was it installed by you or came on new PC ?
What sort of windows 8.1. Disk are you using for the upgrade ?

OK, that mostly says that either you need the updates to 8 first, or your existing version can't do it.

What exactly are you running, and where did it come from?

I built a PC and installed Windows 7 on it, yesterday I installed Windows 8 onto it. Now that I have Windows 8.1 disc I would like to install that. The Windows 8.1 is volume licensing. Am I able to upgrade Windows 8 to 8.1 without doing a clean install?

Where did the Windows 8 install come from?
Pretty sure you can't use the 8.1 VLK disk to 'upgrade' the existing Win8.
