hi, my cpu just died after a few great years in my game computer. and it just died yesterday, smoke and everything. i booted all my other stuff like my gpu hard drive and ect on my other computer and they are all fine. i was wondering if anyone can help me find anything that is more powerful than my old cpu and is cheaper as well. or should i just stick with buy a exact replacement of my old cpu.

my old cpu was a AMD PHENOM II X6 1055T 2.8 GHz

TY!

The CPU smoked? ...Huh. I've really only ever seen various parts of the motherboard blow out from a CPU-related issue, not the CPU itself. Congratulations!

For gaming, I'd personally recommend a Phenom II x4 965, though they're starting to get a bit harder to find... the added clock speed over a 6-core Deneb gives a noticeable improvement in games, which generally only use one or two cores. If you do a lot of video/3D rendering and editing work, stick with an exact replacement, as the extra two cores will really help speed things up.
