I use windows media center for my local TV. My pc and an HD homerun Dual are both connected to my asus router and my pc communicates with the tv tuner through the network. I DO NOT have internet. This setup works fine although when I want to connect to the internet I use my iPhone wireless hotspot. I have a wireless adapter hooked up to my pc as well. So whenever I connect to the iphone via the wireless adapter my pc says both connections are active although neither work.
It says the main Ethernet connection (local area connection, to the router) is connected, no internet. Then it says my wireless connection is connected, with internet. Although i cannot access the internet and also windows media center cannot communicate with the tv tuner.

The only way I have got either to work is to disable one or the other. If I disable the local area connection then the internet works. If I disable the wireless then the tv works again. Why can they not work together? I have tried "sharing" the wireless connection with the local area connection and in this case the internet will work but the tv tuner still will not work unless i disable the wireless connection.

is there a way to allow them both to work because switching back and forth is annoying and also cannot access internet while watching tv so if I'm on the internet while something is scheduled to record it doesnt get recorded.

thanks in advance for your help.

Remove the default gateway from the network you use in the house. You can only really have a single default route in the PC. If you are using the router to give out IP you can set it blank in their also since none of your devices need the default since the router does not have a path to the internet. Otherwise just change it in the network settings you will likely have to use a static ip address since you can't change just the gateway field.
