Windows 8 Pro installed, but not activated - can I change to Windows 8 Home?

I downloaded Windows 8 Pro (without an internet connection) thinking that the license had not yet been used. After connecting to the internet, I realized that I was unable to activate it because the license for the software had already been used.

I now need to buy another license in order to activate. What is the cheapest way to activate? Through Microsoft it is telling me that it will cost $199...

I do not believe Pro has any added features that I will need, so is there a way to switch my operating system to Home? I assume Home is a lot cheaper?

If it is cheaper, what do I need to do in order to switch from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8 Home?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer,

- Brian

You do indeed need to buy a Home license. Can you spare the time and effort to re-install Windows 8 as the Home version, which is the simplest solution? Or have you already installed and used the Pro version so that you don't want to start over?

Where did you get ripped off for a use Pro license?
