Hi everyone, i was hoping for some advice on an issue I am having with my Dell studio laptop.

Recently when im playing games on my laptop the frame rates drop to around 30fps, I never get a steady 60fps anymore and its getting worse as the days go by. I downloaded speedfan, it shows my 4 cores temperatures. They are very high, core 4 was hitting as high as 87 on some occasions the other cores are around 65-75 degrees. They keyboard feels warm too. I bought a tin of compressed air as I thought the fan may be blocked i sprayed the air into the fan and some dust came out but this hasn't helped.

About 9 months ago my housemate who fixes laptops reapplied thermal paste (whatever that is) It took him all evening to do it and it helped with heating problems before. I don't want to ask him to do that again as it took him all night and hes very busy with work. If he reapplied the paste 9 months ago im assuming it wouldn't need redone so soon. Im really not sure what the problem is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps he didn't apply it correctly or used a low quality one that has worn off in only 9 months...

Those temps are really high indeed, what you'd have to do is to open your laptop, clean all dust specially in the CPU fan, and reapply thermal paste, applying it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes, what might have taken him more time is to disassemble and reassemble the laptop itself, I suggest you to look for some video tutorial on how to disassemble/reassemble your laptop.

All the work shouldn't take more than 1 hour anyways...
