Is the netgear42 wifi connection safe

Solution
Okay your in your home, you have your iPhone and you 'see' a Netgear 42 or do you OWN a Netgear 42. If you 'SEE' a Netgear 42, that is someone's router 'broadcasting' it is available to use for that person's family, NOT YOU. Be like the person started the car in the driveway and left the car door open to run inside to get something, does that mean they are giving you the car to drive? NO, it would be and using the Netgear are both theft.

Now if you OWN the Netgear inside your house, uhmmm.. you bought the netgear to make a wifi connection why wouldn't it be safe to use? You spent the money to get one?
Not understanding your question. Are you talking your trying to connect to your wifi connection in your home and wonder if the WIFI signal itself is safe? Are you talking your at a hotel and that is the NAME of the wifi connection? Your at Starbucks and you see netgear42 listed and connect is it safe?

Please be more coherent on what your asking, we don't' know you, what your doing or what is your concern. Please help us understand clearly the issue and what is involved.

Thank you very much for your help.I am brand-new to the iPhone family and had no clue what any of the Wi-Fi stuff is all about. I just seen it on my phone and didn't know nothing about it. We have AT&T Wi-Fi in my home so I just wondered it was. Just a question cause it was there. Thank you for your help, is really helpful

Wifi has nothing to do with the iPhone Family. Wifi is wireless connecting of networking devices (Playstation, PC, iPhone, etc.) instead of WIRES plugged into your devices to get on the network (network is interconnected devices wired or wireless that see each other). The Netgear WITH a service provider (AT&T) connects your home (for a monthly fee) to AT&T then to the rest of the world (Internet).

Your iPhone, like all smart phones, has TWO capabilities. First is Cellular (those 'cell towers' people see) that is used by phones for voice, then additionally Internet access. Cell towers have to be 'in range' (those 'bars' you look at on the phone) to get the signal for voice or Internet access. But using the Cellular service for Internet used to eat up 'minutes' and now has a 'usage cap' on how much you can do in a month, so they added Wifi to the phones.

Just like a laptop the wifi picks up on the smart phone to use for Internet, but doesn't 'cost' you on your phone bill. Wifi though, is not like cellular that it is everywhere, it is ONLY in range of a single building, and they have to be letting you use it (McDonalds, a Hotel, Starbucks, your library, your home). If you aren't authorized then you can't use the Wifi even if your iPhone/cell phone picks it up, or even if it was your laptop that picked it up.
