If you really want an SSD in it then definitely go for a Samsung 840 Evo for sure, you will have to reinstall windows on the SSD, you can also use the HDD as an external drive. Although I wouldn't bother myself, although I would never buy a Alienware to start off with, you won't notice a huge amount of difference apart from start up but it's up to you.

not at all.the concensus ive gotten is yes there is room for both the ssd and your origional hdd.the i7 model has an option for an ssd so i cant see why the i5 model couldnt be fitted with one.this way you have a fast drive for boot and still have another drive for storage.

The HDD my X51 shipped with was dog slow, there is no way I wouldn't have swapped it out. 500GB Samsung EVO upped my windows exp index i/o score from 5.9 to 7.9. Don't walk, run to buy an SSD. It comes with cloning software, all you need is the usb to sata iii converter to use it. It took about an hour to clone my 1TB HDD. The only real challenge was getting it in because it needs the right bracket and the ones commonly available don't quite work because the connector on the motherboard is offset kind of oddly.
