I'm new to pc building so I need some pointers as to what sound card is best for my needs. Do I even need a sound card? I have not yet ordered any parts but the list of components goes like this;

CPU - Intel i7 4930K
GPU - 4x Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition
PSU - Corsair AX1200i Digital ATX
SSD - 6x Samsung 840 EVO
Motherboard - Asrock X79 Extreme11

I have yet to decide on RAM. I am not even sure if these components would work together or if the PSU could handle that. Any help would be great.

This rig is intended for 4k @ 60-100fps for games like Battlefield 4.

That's quite a bit of hardware for a first build.

Buying a sound card will depend on what headphones and speakers you will be using.

Your motherboard will come with onboard sound which is good enough for plain desktop speakers and moderate quality headphones. If you are just using those, there would be no need for a sound card.

If you will be using a nicer surround sound system or expensive headphones, you'll likely notice a difference in audio quality between onboard and a sound card.

Here's a decent sound card:

As for RAM, 8gb 1600Mhz DDR3 from a major brand like corsair, gskill, patriot... should be enough for gaming.

I don't have much experience with 4 way SLI so...

That is a killer of a build! To be honest a lot of these modern Mobo have very good integrated 7.1 sound solutions, I would save my money. Although I don't understand why you have 6SSDs I personally would get 1 SSD with your operating system and have 5 WD black 1TB HDD you get much more storage for no where near the price, I wouldn't go for speed personally, especially since it's the SSD with windows on it that you will notice the speed the rest you will merely see a difference.

Given the quality of ya other components, I'd suggest the Asus Rampage IV Black Edition with the built in RoG Supreme FX. The Supreme Fx has sound equivalent to the $90 Asus Xonar card.

Your PSU is undersized for what ya putting in it .... the Seasonic X-1250 would be my choice tho if ya scaled back to three GFX cards

CPU = 230 watts OC'd
GPUs = 262 watts stock ~ 300 watts OC'd x 4 = 1200watts

I'd definitely be putting this in a large CaseLabs chassis with watercooling (Koolance 380i CPU Waterblock, EK Full Cover WBs, Alphacool Rads, Swiftech 35x2 pump and Aqualis Reservoir)

RAM - For this level of components I'd be looking at Mushkin Redline 2400

As for the SSDs I'd call Samsung TS 1st as I assume you talking RAID and i think they will talk ya out of it.

Tho if I was building this box it would be for three 1920 x 1080 144 hz screens not a single 4k screen
