Dual display desktop background question

Hey everyone, I got most likely an easy question for you, but not so easy for me.

I just hooked up dual displays to my rig and am trying to figure out how all this works. It's definitely different figuring things out compared to a single display.

I made a panorama picture with Microsoft ICE and am trying to spread it across both screens. I have that part down but for some reason with that picture, or any other 3880x1020 image I try and use, the second monitors picture is not level with the first monitor. You can see in the picture that the second monitors image is rolled up on the screen about an inch or two.

If I bring my pointer from the first monitor to the second one, it jumps up an inch when it reaches the second screen. They are a pair of Samsung T24C550ND monitors. Not top end, but good enough for me. I don't see any kind of manual way to adjust the screen down. Resolution is set the same on both. My GTX 670 is attached to one via HDMI cable and the other on a DVI to HDMI cable.

I want to use these for gaming but with it doing this, it's not worth trying until I get it figured out.

What is causing that? What can I do about it?

Thx. Jerry.

Solution
Try something like this maybe. Go to your Screen resolution settings and check to be sure your two monitors are lined up in the display diagram. Here are two screen shots from mine as reference:

Yes that was it. Thanks. Funny thing was I tried that last night but every time I released the mouse button it would return to the same position.

I am finally getting the hang of two monitors now. Wasn't as easy as I thought to get everything working like I wanted.

You wouldn't be able to help me out with another question would you?

I have my two monitors working separately and able to move windows where I like them, but I built this as a gaming rig and would like to occationally play Battlefield 4 and other games in 3880x1020 resolution stretched across both monitors, and I have not been able to figure that out yet. I know the bezel and other things will take away from that experience, but I would like to know how it's done and try it anyway even if it is only a couple of times.

Another thing I want to do is use one monitor for tv when the big game is on. Both these monitors have tv tuners. I put a splitter in my cable and my cable company/ISP "little black box" on one of the monitors but have not been able to get a tv picture yet. But when I switch the source, both tvs want to change. For now I just have to cover up the IR receiver on the other monitor while the first one switches to tv mode. Minor inconvenience, but I will get it figured out sooner or later.

EDIT ---- I got the left monitor to get a tv signal and the right for PC use. But when the left is in tv mode and I have no activity on the PC screen on the right, the PC screen goes black after about 2 minutes. Mouse movement wont turn it on but a quick click of the mouse and the PC screen is back up.

What do you think would be causing that?

I'm not sure about dual monitor gaming as most everything goes to 3+ because of bezel issues. However If you are playing BF4 I highly recommend just playing on one monitor and using BattleView on the other. It gives you are full screen map in real time of your current game. Just like a giant version of your minimap making it easier for you to guide yourself and your team towards objectives.

It sounds like the screen is going to "sleep" due to inactivity. There is a timer in windows and there may also be one in the monitor settings. First off when you have one as a TV you should make sure windows is no longer sending a signal to that monitor. Back in that same settings page, show desktop on only 1 or 2 whichever you have set for PC. Next you want to check your power settings in windows. Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options. On the left there should be and option that says "Choose when to turn off the display." You can adjust this to your liking. I keep mine set to never and I just turn off the monitors when I get done using them. Also mouse movement/click/keyboard press are all setting you can change telling a computer how to wake up. You can even do it over LAN. This should not be an issue once you change the timing though.

Under Power Options I have always had the displays never power off. I checked it and it's still set that way. It only seems to be doing it when I have a tv signal going over the first monitor.

95% of the time both monitors will be used only by my PC. For the remaining 5% of the time will be PC on one, TV on the other. Only the PC screen would go black every couple of minutes while the tv was going. A click of the mouse would bring it right back. It only seemed to do it when the first monitor had a tv signal. But today I did leave the room after starting the PC and came back a half hour later to a couple black screens. I haven't seen that happen yet so I haven't nailed down the exact circumstances causing this yet. Today it is now going to sleep about every 5 minutes of inactivity. I have got into the TV's settings and there is nothing lower than a 15 minutes setting to sleep so that command must be coming from somewhere else.

Hmm. I'm not really all that sure of what it's doing; not really too knowledgeable with TV troubleshooting. Can you take the HDMI wire off of the TV monitor to PC so that it is only connected by the coaxial cable for the TV channels. After doing this the PC should run only on one monitor and the TV separately with no way to interact with the PC. Check and see if you still are having issues with it going blank now.

The other monitor still goes to sleep after about two minutes even with the tv monitors HDMI cable disconnected. So there must be some setting, somewhere, that is doing this. But like I said, in the monitors settings, there is no settings lower than 15 minutes for time to sleep. I will have to keep looking. It's really not a big deal, but it's one of those few problems I have left that I want to get it figured out eventually.

EDIT -- I figured It out. I had found some software called Display fusion to find some 3880X1020 desktop backgrounds and it had a setting for sleep. It's default setting was 1 minute. Doesn't make much sense. Sorry about all the questions when it was rather easy to find if I kept looking. Thanks for all you help Illumynization. It's greatly appreciated.
