I downloaded minecraft the other day and it was running well. The max fps was about 250 and it would stay between 100-150 most the time but whenever i went to a part of the server where a lot of people were it would drop to as low as 50. Now since today i logged in and my fps was between 10-40 at all times! I turned on Advanced Open GL and it boosted it a bit but made it even worst near other players. I've allocated more ram, installed optifine etc. but it's still low? The first thing i did was play BF4 on high/ultra and although i didn't have an fps counter it was very smooth.

What is your CPU? Your CPU might be the problem. You can also give us a FRAPS benchmark so we can see some more information.

I increased the max fps to unlimited and it fixed it but i tried that before and it didnt have an affect. My FPS still drops occasionally and is lower than what i would expect though and when in areas of a server where there are lots of people it still goes down to about 30?! My CPU is an FX 8350

Ok, so you don't have to increase the FPS cap because if your monitor can only display 60hz/60FPS, then anything more will just stress your CPU more, which can actually cause less FPS. So probably keep it to 60FPS cap. Then turn off VSYNC. Having VSYNC on can make your FPS fluctuate from 60 to 30FPS when the game becomes more demanding. Make sure it is turned off in AMD catalyst and the game. Restart the game. Does it work better? Plus, the 270X isn't the best graphics card, but it is still great and if you are getting 50FPS around other players, then you should be ok still.

thats very unusual, i have an a6-6400k paired with a 7790 and getting a solid 60fps if not more... what server are you on? if theres too much movement on screen it will lower your fps. try reinstalling minecraft.
