Dual Dvi and Hdmi Help

I have a BenQ X2420T, beast of a monitor. When I connect my laptop (msi GT60 with geforce 770M card) through hdmi, I achieve 1080p, but only with 60hz, when my monitor goes up to 120. I researched a little and found out I should use a dual dvi Cable instead. Unfortunately, my computer does not have a dual dvi output, so I tried using a dual dvi to hdmi adapter to connect my computer. Now, I can only get to 120 Hz when my resolution is at 1024x768. is there a different kind of adapter I should be using? Any help is appreciated.

Yes use the DisplayPort. Mini-DP is the same as regular DP except the size of the connector. Get the appropriate DP cable and you'll be all set.

My understanding is that HDMI ports don't support 1080p@120hz. Dual-link DVI or DisplayPort is required. There isn't any way to make your HDMI port have more bandwidth. That's why you are limited to 1024x768 @120hz. I think your laptop only has HDMI and VGA (correct me if I'm wrong), so I'm betting you are stuck with 60hz.

my card has a displayport and so does my monitor. Will I be able to achieve it with dp?

edit: it has mini displayport. Would this still work?
