Hi! I have a desktop with Windows 7 pro, with a router to use a laptop with Windows XP pro wirelessly. Both computers have MS Security Essentials. With the April deadline of MicroSoft supporting XP, I need advice, please!
Both computers have been used at sites like PayPal. In April, the Windows 7 desktop should be fine; but, will the XP make my laptop be dangerous to continue using it at financial sites?
If it will no longer be safe to use the XP at financial sites, will it be safe to use it to go Online at non-financial sites … or since the XP laptop has already been used at financial site is the private info somehow still accessible even if you no longer go to those sites?
Your time and any assistance will be appreciated sincerely and immensely!

XP will be specifically targeted for exploits. Many exploits are not specific to any particular OS.
XP, Vista, 7, 8....

So, what will happen is that a security patch for Win7 will be analyzed. If found to also be applicable to XP (likely)...there will be numerous exploits in the wild.

There is no way I would continue to use XP on a public facing site that required a password of any kind.

yeah but you will not be getting the latest malware and virus definitions from Microsoft. I would say look into 3rd party antivirus software and anti malware that has continuing support for windows XP. use Google Chrome, and always make sure the sites are https:// at checkouts etc (green with the little lock by it)...(NOT Http:// , http*s*://

Thanks, Beezy!

I didn't know that other antivirus & anti malware would have continuing support for XP. Can you make a recommendation, please? Free would be great )

If I use Google Chrome and 3rd party protections & the sites are https:// , do you think it will be safe to go to financial sites?

Microsoft and other companies have stated they will continue to update antivirus applications. But that has nothing to do with updating the actual XP OS. When the AV misses something, you're swinging in the breeze...
