CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 (3.4ghz)
Mobo: AM2+ Foxconn AMI A7MVX-K
GPU: Radeon R9 270x (4GB)
PSU: 850W

My graphics card is not working and im guessing its due to my cpu. So I'm planning to overclock it to 4.0GHZ and see what it does. Thanks

Solution

A CMOS clear could be a good idea actually. The easiest way to do this is to remove and reinsert the small circular battery on the motherboard. This will remove any settings you've applied in the BIOS and reset the date and time, so you'll need to put these settings back again.

When I boot up my PC there is no display. Its loading the OS becuase i can hear the windows sound, but no display. However once in like every 20 boot up i get screen? which i find wierd...any suggestion?

It's sounds more like a Graphics card problem do you have two six pin power cables plugged in to the back of the card if so check the power cables that connect from the power supply to the card and make sure the card is seated in the PCI-Express slot take the card out and put it back in the problem your having is with the graphic card not the cpu.

Don't bother with the overclock, the processor is not the problem and overclocking it won't do any good. Given that the graphics card works intermittently, I'd suggest that the problem either lies with that or the motherboard.

As the processor doesn't support onboard graphics, does your motherboard have another PCIe slot that you can attach the graphics card to? If so, pop the card in there and see if the problem reoccurs. If it does, then try connecting to the monitor with a different cable (VGA, DVI, HDMI). If it still doesn't work, try connecting the computer to your TV. If it still doesn't work, try a spare graphics card (if you have one).

What you need to do is eliminate all the possible problems until you arrive at a conclusion.

Thanks for the reply.

Ok so its not the CPU. My motherboard has only 1 PCIe slot which is compatible with my GPU. I have already tried to connect it to my TV via a HDMI cable but it does the same. My previous graphics is a Radeon HD5500 series so its the same brand and it worked for years.

This is the graphics card:

My motherboard:

a7vmx-k, Foxconn, AMI, AM2+, 2x2GB RAM.

Thanks

Yes the two six pin power cable is correctly connected to the card. I truly believe its not the GPU, since its brand new.

Ok well my friend ordered the same card so i will wait and if it works on his PC then I will try my GPU on his PC too. If it works then i will probably need to change my mobo because he has an AM3+ Gigabyte mobo and a similar cpu

Sounds good to me.

Hi

Do you mean a BIOS update? Because other people were suggesting this option as well. But I dont really know how to do that...Its a pretty sensible part so I dont want to mess up my PC hah but i could find a way to do it if you really think this might be the issue.

thanks
