disk boot failure

I was doing a system restore on the kids old hp pavilion when he shut it off. I now have a "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". we dont have any any of the original disks. I checked the cords and there firmly attached. I tried a vista recovery disk and nothing seemed to happen. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

You will need to reformat the HDD first before the vista recovery disk will work. Are the vista recovery disk you are trying to use for that computer?

To add a little bit of explanation to what Chiisu said. By shutting off the computer during the system restore process you were probably left with a half-broken Windows that will not boot or run properly.

However, I do not recommend that you do a format just yet (as you will lose all your data). Instead you can do a Windows repair as shown here:

Follow the steps, and when you get to "Figure 6" asking if you want to do a "System Restore" pick yes or "Restore".

I would go with KevinAR18 suggestion, as I was a bit hasty in my suggestion.
