ive tried speed fan, but i couldn't configure it. my mobo manufacturer only had one model(not my model) in the configuration website.I feel that if i could get my fan to run at 90-100% constantly i wouldnt have a problem. i assume that the temperature is causing the shut down. but once i put the laptop on an a/c vent, when i picked it up and tried to do something it shut off.. it wasn't even close to warm.. any input would be grateful

on a laptop...check the ac brick and it wires for bent or twisted wires. on the back of the laptop check the ac power plug over time the pin or the port breaks off from the system board. you can tell if it breaks off the system board it will wiggle.
with laptops if it a over heat issue check that the cpu fan is moving and not clogged with dust and if the laptop a few years old the thermal paste may have dried out.

i bet its thermal paste... i've taken the laptop apart and cleaned the dust but that did not help... also the battery is completely shot.. if i were to remove the power cord right now it would be about 2 seconds before it shut off.. also this laptop is like 10 years old... so yeah thermal paste lol.. but i dont want to put any kind of money in a 10 year old laptop.. is there a fan program i can download? quanta 09b8 is my modo and model... i wish speed fan was able to be configured =/

If the laptop is 10 years old, I doubt you can configure fans speed, but thermal paste is really really cheap in the UK it costs like £3 on eBay in the US for the exact same listing its about $5. Really cheap stuff, but could do the world of good for your laptop.
