I am looking to get a 40 inch hdtv as a photo viewer. All I need to know is since it will be on 24/7 what is the most crisp and clean efficient hdtv I can get. Let alone I need features too. Maybe I will use it as a digital window so I can look into another world, so I might do some videos that will be hrs long, but I bet I will just use it as a giant digital picture frame. Yes and it is sad I know if I buy one there will always be another later on that's better. Remember energy efficient is my main goal and low low price. I need a best price per watt. Nothing else will be done with this hdtv.

Avoid plasma. LED if possible, "normal" LCD if its not worth the price difference. I'd get the most basic one you can. No built in digital tuner, DVD player, etc. Just a TV.

I already listed all the energy savings ideas I know. Plasmas look great, but use way more electricity. Only way to save more is to turn down the brightness to the lowest level you can use. But other then that see above. Differences won't be very much. I'm not sure you'd even be able to tell.

You won't be able to find a 40 inch new TV for $200 (in the US at least), unless used. Any LCD TV should have an energy saver rating on it and most of those are very close to each other in power usage. A TV with an LED backlight should be the most efficient.

A 40 inch LCD TV with LED backlight should be at 100 watts, which is a bit like leaving two light bulbs on all the time.

That's odd my 40 inch samsung 6000 has a tdp of 89w and an average of 49w. Plus I could keep checking the email deals. Sorryy to burst your bubble but 100 watts is unheard of most these days. Anyway thanks for the imput. Was hoping could have found a better deal then I could, but eh I don't think hdtvs are there yet. Maybe they will never be but cross your fingers and if you can find a tv for me that can make up the price in lower power use over time by all means post. All I ever wanted was to see the world, then I got a 40 incher that took me around the world and then some, but when it took me to the moon...
