I took out the screen for my laptop and hooked up this monitor.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/aoc-21-5-ips-led-hd-monitor...
When i installed it, it worked full 1080 and was ok.
Then i restarted and it displayed 1/2 screens in the display options all of sudden and wont display any other option other then 1020/768. Both the laptop and monitor are 1080 and worked fine when i plugged it in.
The laptop no longer has a screen since it broke i also unplugged the inverter cable. It worked fine until a restart.

How do i get back to the way it was when i first plugged it in?

I would try turning on the laptop without the cable being plugged in and connect the cable after it boots up.

Does the laptop's monitor work? Use other cables like VGA or DVI depending on whichever one you've tried before.

The laptops monitor does not work i removed the entire lid as well as laptop screen inverter cord. Its a vga hookup there is no hdmi.
It worked until i ran cc cleaner.

Any other options?
The display options show 1/2 monitor. There is only one external display, its brad new aoc 1080 ips.

I would try re-installing the GPU driver, I believe it's a GT650M. If so, then you may go on Nvidia's website and download the driver > uninstall the current driver > download driver sweeper or driver fusion > go into safe mode > clean up the driver again > restart > install the Nvidia driver.

How was it fixed? Is it displaying 2 screens on 1 monitor right now?
Try pressing Fn + F8 a few times and something should change

I set it to display screen 2 only.
It displays another monitor but there is no other monitor.
I took out the laptops screen, and lid and cord.

How do you know it's displaying on both monitor, if the other one doesn't work? Is the entire screen stretched out? Did Fn + F8 not help? (it suppose to switch around different display method such as dual, expand, monitor 1, and monitor 2.

Click on the drop down menu of Multiple displays and change it to 2nd monitor only, or dual.

Is it trying to process a the second screen option even though the screen optoins is set to display screen 2? I want only one display and one main display to display only. How can i disable the phanton display?

Im trying to get rid of the phantom display all together.

Does running a external display on a laptop when the laptops display is disable make it run hotter if they are both the same resolution?

So you've tried monitor 1 only and monitor 2 only, but none of them showed up on your external display?
I would say yes but should not by a lot.

I tried them both.

What I am trying to do is get rid of the phantom monitor that keeps showing up in the display options.
The old laptop screen is gone but it keep showing its still there.

Is your mouse icon capable of reaching to the phantom display and disappear? Or it can only stay on the external display?
