Hey!~~

So basically, I'm a student at a dorm, and we have 9 people living here, 8 of us have a computer. We also have a 'linksys' router.

For some reason, sometimes this happens:
1) When I'm connected to the internet, all the other 7 people are unable to connect (yellow triangle pops up onto the bars).
2) When the yellow triangle hits me, all the other 7 people are able to connect to the internet, but I'm not.

So umm... yeah... what about that?

Wiring diagram? It sounds like you're connecting directly to the ISP, while the others are going through the router. As your ISP will only hand out 1 IP address, either the router gets it (and shares it amongst the other 7), or your PC gets it.

You need to be on one of the router's LAN ports, or a switch on one of the LAN ports.
