I tried to open one of the files I got a message saying the file is corrupt and the device was shutting down. I do not know how many files are corrupt. I tried to plug the Buffalo Inc(WD) into my laptop to remove the corrupt file but it wont open on my laptop, it doesnt even recognise that the device has been plugged into the laptop. It wont turn off, the blue light is constantly on. I have unplugged the hard drive and plugged it back in and I keep getting the same result. Can you please advise me how to remove all the corrupted file from the device?

First things first. More important is what caused the corruption in the first place as it may indicate a faulty drive and that is not fixable. Test it with SeaTools for Windows on a computer which is able to detect it:
