Yes you can, and I don't think your core 2 quad will bottleneck this card.

You have DDR2 memory which is outdated and may bottleneck the performance of this card (GDDR5), also your motherboard have a PCIe 1.0 x16. I don't know for certain, but for a mainstream card like the HD 7790 I think it is not very probable that it would be bottle-necked by your older hardware. You may however get the card anyway and later, as it has already been suggested upgrade the rest of your PC when you can afford to.

My previous card was a SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 5750 1gb ddr5 128 bit and the system was with very good performance. I was able to play games like crysis 3 and battlefield 3 on low with good fps. Can you suggest me other cards with good performance for this rusty old system? AMD Nvidia some good choises

The best card at the price point of a HD 7790 would be a R7 260x, which is basically a re branded and enhanced HD 7790.

I don't think this card can even utilize more than 1 GB of VRAM, but if the price difference is small, another 1 GB of VRAM won't hurt.
