I use an Edimax EW-771USn wireless adapter to connect to the Internet. I have a wireless router in the hallway and I can't connect it to my PC via cable. I want to switch to Linux for Internet browsing(because it's a lot safer than Windows), but keep a separate partition with Windows 7 for games.
My question is: does the driver for that adapter work with Ubuntu? On the box it says it supports Linux but I'm not sure if this applies to all distributions. If it doesn't work(properly) with Ubuntu, what distro should I use instead?

Things may have improved during the past year, but... in 2012 I bought two Edimax wifi cards because of their claimed compatibility with Linux. They both worked the first time, but never again after rebooting. After reading some user reviews on Newegg, I realized that Linux compatibility happens only if you are willing to compile the drivers yourself (a time-consuming hassle). Like I said, things may have improved.
